Women Celebrate a Year Without Roe – The Impossible Became Possible

On June 24, 2022, the Supreme Court overturned the long-lasting, 50-year case of Roe v. Wade, which had decriminalized abortion nationwide. For many women worldwide, the overturning of this case had a significant impact over the last year. It took away the right to an abortion and is described by some women as “game-changing” and “uplifting”.

An international speaker and author, Bethany Bomberger, gathered in a hotel ballroom with anti-abortion activists and began an impromptu discussion. Ms. Bombeger spoke with gratitude and optimism just before the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.

“There will be life before Roe was overturned and life after,” Ms. Bomberger said this weekend, tearing up as she recalled what she described as a moment “the impossible became possible.”

This year, Bethany spoke about the lives of women who have spent years fighting for the abortion ban. When the Supreme Court overturned the case on June 24, Bethany described it as “a great day in the history of our country.” said Shawn Carney, the president and chief executive of 40 Days for Life.

Now, women worldwide are celebrating.

On Saturday night, a dance party was hosted. Attendees were invited to come dressed in their best 1972 or 2022 outfits. The party referenced the year before Roe was decided and the year that the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.

“It is both a celebration and a reminder that, like, we have to keep up this energy, the energy that we’ve kept up the past 50 years — we have to double it now and keep going,” Ms. Degefa said. “It’s never going to be a win until abortion is abolished in all 50 states.”
