Pink Paint Shortage Caused By the Barbie Movie

As a diehard Barbie fan might say, You’re my doll, rock’n’roll, feel the glamour in pink.

The live-action Barbie movie, coming out in theaters on July 21st, 2023, is said to have caused a global shortage in pink paint. Sarah Greenwood, production designer of the Barbie movie states, “The world ran out of pink.”

The entertainment industry’s main supplier of paint, Rosco Paint, is now having a severe pink paint shortage due to the Barbie movie.

The movie started production back in 2022, when the world was still suffering a paint shortage. According to NPR, “Lauren Proud, Rosco’s Vice President of Global Marketing, told the Los Angeles Times on Friday that ‘they used as much paint as we had’ — but that it was in short supply to begin with during the movie’s production in 2022. The company was still dealing with pandemic-related supply chain issues and recovering from the 2021 Texas freeze that damaged crucial raw materials, she said.”

Even though Rosco was running out of pink paint, they still tried their best to deliver the right amount of paint needed. However, Rosco Paint had barely any paint at all after the production wrapped. Maybe Barbie felt too much glamor in pink this time.
