For the second time in history, a former president of the United States of America is being convicted on criminal charges. On June 13 Donald Trump pleaded not guilty in court in Miami, FL. Trump says he hasn’t done anything wrong and he is free until he has to go back to court again.

His recent charges are a lot worse than his first charges, which he pleaded not guilty to earlier this year. If found guilty he could spend years in prison. Despite this, Trump says that he will not drop out of the 2024 presidential race and there still is a chance that he could win, even if he is convicted.

As the United States president from 2016 to 2020, Donald Trump had access to government related documents. The documents included information on nuclear programs, war plans, weapon capabilities, and pentagon attack plan.. After he lost the 2020 presidential race he took a lot of these documents to his home, storing them in his bathroom, bedroom, and ballroom.

Lawyers say that if the documents were leaked it could have harmed United States soldiers and spies and hurt how the United States gathers information on other countries. Prosecutors say Trump tried to stop government officials from taking the documents back. They also say Trump suggested destroying the documents.

Paul Quirk, who is an expert on United States politics says, Trump’s most recent charges are a lot worse than his first charges. He also said that those documents hold some of the most important secrets in the United States.

A trial for these charges will probably happen in 2024, says Darren Mulloy who has expertise in Donald Trump. Some of the charges have a penalty of over 20 years in prison. Darren Mulloy also says, the chances that the evidence against Donald Trump could lead to conviction is strong. Quirk agreed and said that the case against Trump is overwhelmingly strong. People would think that the defender would be convicted easily, but Trump has lots of supporters. Mulloy and Quirk both said that even with lots of evidence right now, anything can happen.

Despite being almost convicted, Trump still has lots of public supporters. He even called the case the most outrageous and vicious legal theories ever put in front of American law.
