New Judge Presiding over Attack on Pelosi

By: Eric Wang

The fate of Paul Pelosi’s attacker is in new hands; on November 28, Stephen Murphy took over David DePape’s case as presiding judge.

“DePape is facing charges of attempted murder, assault, and other felonies. Allegedly, on October 28, David DePape broke into house speaker Nancy Pelosi’s San Francisco home, clubbing Mrs. Pelosi’s husband, Paul Pelosi, in the head, and shouting, “Where is Nancy?”. He is being held without bail and faces a ton of federal, state, and local charges, facing decades in prison. He has pleaded not guilty to all such charges.

In the attack, DePape forced his way into the Pelosi household, where he encountered Paul Pelosi. He proceeded to bash Paul in the head with a hammer, in an attack President Biden has stated: “appeared to be for Nancy.” Nancy Pelosi was in Washington at the time.

The former presiding judge was Loretta Giorgi, who says she has worked with Christine Pelosi, one of Nancy Pelosi’s daughters, in the San Francisco city attorney’s office in the 1990s. However, the two have not interacted in years.

Judge Murphy received his bachelor’s degree from the College of the Holy Cross, and a Juris Doctor (JD) from the University of San Francisco School of Law. He was a sole practitioner from 1999 before being appointed to the Superior Court of San Francisco in 2017.

San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins has issued a press release stating that the council met “to confirm their readiness for the preliminary hearing and accepted the assignment to Judge Murphy.”
