A Nor’easter brought more than a foot of heavy snow and rain to many parts of New England. This knocked out the power for more than 200,000 people in the region.
In Maine, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire, more than a foot of snow was recorded in many areas, according to the National Weather Service. In Cape Cod, a wind gust of more than 73 mph was recorded. Snow showers have continued to linger in the area for a few days after the Nor’easter.
Around 43,000 people in Massachusetts had a power outage on the evening of Saturday, December 5th but, by Sunday evening, all but a few hundred had power restored. Tens of thousands of people in New Hampshire also lost power. 16,000 people still remained without power on Sunday evening. The COVID-19 pandemic has also made service restoration take longer than normal such that some people would still have had to wait until Tuesday. Additionally, more than 105,000 people in Maine had no power Sunday evening.
