A popular way for kids to learn while having fun is learning through playing games. After conducting 19 studies, researchers now believe that certain board games can help students improve their math skills.
The studies were held for about twenty minutes two times a week for six weeks, with kids ages 3-9. Sometimes, one group of kids would play board games related to math while another group played other board games.
Before and after each study, the participants’ math skills were assessed. During each assessment, the researchers looked for improvement in multiple categories related to skills utilized in mathematics. Some categories included the ability to count and know the difference between different numbers and the ability to name numbers.
The outcomes of the studies were published in a Journal called Early Years on July 6th, 2023. It shows that the children also improved at over half of the four categories. Plus, nearly a third of the children who played math-related board games had more improvement than the group who played other board games.
Thanks to this discovery, kids now have another fun option to learn more!
