Apple released the Magic Mouse 2 in 2015. We purchased an iMac in 2021, and this mouse came along with it. I used this mouse to replace my old Logitech M510 two months ago. I give it a 5-star rating because it has multiple features, mainly touch gestures, that many other mice lack.
First, it has lots of touch gestures that can make you more productive. For example, I can quickly access Mission Control by tapping the mouse’s built-in touch-sensitive top twice with two fingers to close all the windows I don’t need. Another example is that I can use Smart Zoom to zoom into details by tapping top of the mouse on a webpage or PDF that is hard to see when viewing it at normal size.
Second, it is easy to use. I can quickly customize touch gestures and other features in system settings without needing to download third-party software that may not be safe. The Broadcom Bluetooth chip in the mouse pairs it with a Mac in less than 3 seconds. The mouse is very light and portable and doesn’t need a delicate USB receiver, like the Logitech M510. It has a 1300 dots-per-inch (DPI) complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) sensor that is higher resolution than the Logitech M510’s 1000 DPI sensor, which makes the Magic Mouse 2’s cursor move more smoothly.
Lastly, it has a rechargeable battery that lasts several weeks, according to MakeUseOf’s testing. However, if you don’t use your computer for power-consuming tasks as often, it will last about a month on each charge. My old Logitech M510 used a pair of 1.5v alkaline batteries that would degrade to 1.2v after one month of use and to 1.1v after two months. After they ran out, they would need to be recycled safely at a high price. Now, when the Magic Mouse 2’s internal 3.7v Li-ion battery runs out, all I have to do is to charge it overnight. When the battery stops holding a charge, I can just have it serviced by Apple.
In conclusion, the Magic Mouse 2 is a great mouse with lots of convenient features. It is very easy to use and is rechargeable. I would highly recommend you buy this mouse if you are purchasing a Mac.
