Is it Good that Elon Musk owns Twitter?

By: Alvin Fang

On April 14th, Elon Musk stated that he wanted to buy Twitter, and after a long-lasting saga, he finally bought Twitter for $44 billion. Many have questioned whether Elon Musk’s owning Twitter is a good thing or a bad thing because although Elon Musk’s instinct to defend free speech is a positive one, he can be hard to work with.

Elon Musk was probably the best option to buy Twitter, having many experiences in being CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, co-founder of Neurilink and OpenAI, and more. So chances are that He is well equipped to improve Twitter in many ways.

However, Musk has already fired the CEO and tweeted, “the bird is freed and is planning on firing almost about 75% of the staff!” Elon is trying to make a difference on Twitter, but this jeopardizes the livelihoods of former employees.

“Twitter obviously cannot become a free-for-all hellscape, where anything can be said with no consequences! In addition to adhering to the laws of the land, our platform must be warm and welcoming to all, where you can choose your desired experience according to your preferences, just as you choose, for example, to see movies or play video games ranging from all ages to mature,” says Musk But when the FBI warns about violent extremism and domestic organizing online and Elon Musk seems either not to understand that or not to care about it and he thinks content moderation is a “bad thing”.

Is Twitter in safe hands or not, and should we be relieved that Elon is CEO or not? Maybe in the future, we will find out.
