In Paris, a man, who seemed to be disguised as an old woman in a wheelchair, threw a piece of cake at the Mona Lisa.
Videos posted on several social media platforms show security guards at the Louvre Museum
escorting the man away as he spoke about the planet in French. According to The Associated
Press, he said, “Think of Earth! There are people who are destroying the Earth! Think about it.
Artists tell you: think of the Earth. That’s why I did this.”
Another video showed a worker at the museum wiping the cake off the glass protecting the
Mona Lisa, as other visitors filmed the incident’s aftermath.
According to the AP, the 36-year-old man was detained and sent to a psychiatric unit.
However, this isn’t the first time the Mona Lisa has run into trouble.
The original painting was created by Leonardo da Vinci between 1503 and 1519. The oil
painting hangs in the Louvre Museum’s largest room, according to its website.

In 1911, the Mona Lisa disappeared from the museum for over two years. There were no hints
on where it could be, but once someone tried selling the painting to an Italiana art dealer,
authorities were informed of the missing painting.
The protective glass was only added for extra protection after it was damaged in an acid attack during the 1950s.
On its website, the Louvre says, “So the Mona Lisa was recovered – and her fame was all the greater.”
