Since Van Gogh was usually low on money, he usually painted on the back of another canvas. People have found another of Van Gogh’s hidden paintings at Scotland National Galleries.
Van Gogh’s 1885 painting, Head of a Peasant Woman, got an x-ray scan done by the National Galleries. People were indeed surprised that there was a self-portrait of Van Gogh on the back! Not one human eye could see it because many layers of glue and cardboard covered it, so it was hidden for over a century. (10 years) “Moments like this are incredibly rare,” said Frances Fowle. “We have discovered an unknown work by Vincent Van Gogh, one of the most important and popular artists in the world,”
There were once only three pieces of artwork by Van Gogh in the National Galleries. There are now four, because of the discovery of the once hidden portrait of Van Gogh. Many other hidden Van Gogh paintings may be found. Van Gogh’s paintings can be very mysterious. He also painted over his already painted portraits! Van Gogh’s newly discovered painting of himself is not the first nor the last to be found of his mysterious hidden paintings.
