A Puggy Surprise

A Puggy Surprise

By: Celina Cai

I found it this morning when I was heading to school: a box full of puppies. I recognized the type immediately. They were pugs. I took them inside and started thinking. What would I do with them? I didn’t need a handful of pugs. Who would send them to me? That’s when I spotted a note at the bottom of the box. I picked it up. It read,

I think you will like them. I don’t have space for them. I was going to put them “to sleep” but decided to give them to you. Hope you like them.

I looked for a signature. Nowhere. Who would send me a box of pugs? I decided to keep them anyway.

That night, I got into bed and started planning the next day. I needed to buy the puppies beds, toys, food, leashes, collars, food bowls, and I needed to take them to the vet. That sure is a lot of things. I put my notes away and fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow.

The next morning, I got up nice and early, and took the puppies to the vet. It seemed like they were very healthy. The vet asked me where I got such healthy puppies. I told her the whole story from the very beginning to the very end. The vet listened very carefully.

After I finished telling the story, the vet let out a long sigh. “Oh, people these days, “ she wailed. “Leaving puppies around. You should go now.” She motioned me to the door.

After the vet, I stopped at the pet store. I entered the big front doors. There were shelves filled with beverages. I picked out six shining collars that came with leashes, two big food bowls, six puppy beds, a box full of toys, and two cages, just in case. I headed home and started organizing everything. This goes here that goes there, I thought to myself.

After one hour, I was done. I let the puppies out, and they scattered around. Some went to get food and some pulled on the toys. I watched happily as one of the puppies scurried to me and rested his head on my lap. I felt so good to have puppies. Well, I thought. This wasn’t the worst idea. In fact, it was the best!
