Missy Elliott, the famous American rapper and singer, recently embarked on her first-ever headlining tour, “Out of This World — the Missy Elliott Experience,” nearly three decades into her illustrious career. Her first tour at the Barclays Center was full of her creativity that thrilled her enormous fan base.
Elliott’s show was a mix of theatrical and visual spectacle and was reminiscent of major pop events like Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour and the Weeknd’s Super Bowl halftime show. The 75-minute performance was a display of her imaginative accomplishments, featuring hits like “Sock It 2 Me,” “Get Ur Freak On,” and “Work It.” The concert was surprisingly less about song performances and more about creating a one-of-a-kind experience for the audience.
What put Elliott’s show apart from other shows was its special staging and choreography. Platforms, circular screens, and animated backdrops created a surreal atmosphere, while Elliott’s flamboyant outfits added to the drama of the show.
Her presence was both commanding and elusive, often stepping back to let the ensemble shine, emphasizing her role as a creative director– in addition to star.
Elliott’s influence on the music industry is profound, having paved the way for artists like Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, and Travis Scott. Missy Elliott’s Brooklyn show was not just a concert but a celebration of her artistic journey, showcasing her ability to blend music, visuals, and performance into an exhilarating and unique experience.
