To celebrate the 15th anniversary of Pixar movie ‘Up’, released in 2009, Airbnb recreated the famous flying house of Carl Fredrickson.
On Wednesday, Airbnb, a vacation destination rental company, announced in a press conference in Los Angeles, a new category of “Icons,” featuring a collection of “extraordinary experiences hosted by the greatest names in music, film, television, art, sports and more.” The new experiences from Icons include: Pixar’s Up house, Ferrari Museum, “X-men” X-Mansion, Musée d’Orsay, Purple Rain house, A Game with Khaby Lame, ‘Inside Out 2’ headquarters and so much more!
The incredible Up building in Abiquiu, New Mexico, is attached to more than 8,000 balloons and suspended up by a crane. The house inside has one bedroom and two beds. This house is designed to look just like it was in the movie. Guests can find photos of Carl and his wife, characters from the film, on the walls and the trusty backpack of 9-year-old explorer Russell, a friend of Carl. Visitors are also invited to do a range of activities from tending Carl’s mail to stargazing at night.
Airbnb’s co-founder and chief executive officer Brian Chesky says, “Icons take you inside worlds that only existed in your imagination – until now. As life becomes increasingly digital, we’re focused on bringing more magic into the real world. With Icons, we’ve created the most extraordinary experiences on Earth.”
