Amazing Gymnastics!

By: Tiffany Han

The Paris Olympics may have come to an end, but the records continue on. This year, the United States were really proud of the results they got in gymnastics. The score they got was better than their old scores. Last Olympics, the women’s gymnastics didn’t do very well. The men’s gymnastics was suffering from something more severe. They didn’t get a medal for a very long time!!

4 years ago, at the Tokyo Olympics, the U.S. participants in the women’s gymnastics were very excited. However, one of their members had to suddenly cancel because of a mental illness called the “Twisties.” As a result, they came in silver, when all the years prior they got gold. This year’s gymnastic team was under a lot of pressure to come out on top. Even worse, one of their athletes, Sunisa Lee, just battled two kidney diseases six months ago. It was very serious, and Lee used to wonder if she’ll ever step into the gymnasium again. But, the women came out, nailed their routine, and took home gold! The U.S. gold streak is back!

The men’s gymnastics team must still be celebrating. That team broke the 16 year medal drought the U.S. men’s gymnastics were suffering from! It shocked all the spectators, since the team performed poorly in the qualifiers. No one expected them to get a bronze! Their poor performance is partially understandable, because the team captain, Brody Malone was still experiencing the backlash of a knee injury 16 months ago. Many were doubting his ability to do well in the Olympic finals. Malone just walked it off, and performed fabulously.

The U.S. citizens everywhere are happy about the gymnastic results. It’s a miracle they got that grade with athletes recovering from injury or illnesses. Malone broke the 16 year drought with a knee injury from 16 months ago. He sure loves 16! The men’s gymnastics team will hopefully get a better score this year, and the women’s team will stay in gold. Go team USA!
