Wow! She did it! Jack did it! You might know it, but most people stop exercising shortly after they start. But not marathon runner Jack Hunter-Broersma. She ran 26.2 miles daily for 104 days from January 17 to April 30, 2022, with a prosthetic leg! Altogether, the amazing marathoner ran 2736.6 miles. Her feat earned her a place in the Guinness Book of Records for the most consecutive marathons run by a female.
Hunter-Broersma lost her leg because she got cancer in 2001. “I thought runners were crazy … But I kind of just gradually got addicted to it a little bit.”, she said. The 46-year-old woman told CBC News, “Since moving to the U.S. from South Africa in 2006, I’ve picked up running, and ever since, I’ve wanted to keep pushing boundaries.” Hunter-Broersma was inspired into run ever since she heard Alyssa Amos getting a record of 95 marathons.
Just before she finished her goal of 100 marathons, a British runner completed this goal. Undeterred, Hunter-Broersma so she decided to aim higher and get to 104 marathons. Jacky heard about a competition at one of Utah’s most challenging terrains. To prepare for the big event, Jacky intends to complete a 100-mile run sometime this summer!
