Artist Recreates a Painting in Lego Bricks

By: JJ G

The Chinese artist Ai Weiwei recreated Claude Monet’s painting out of Lego bricks.

Ai grew up in the far northwest of China, where he lived under harsh conditions due to his father’s exile. He is a Chinese contemporary artist, documentarian, and activist. His father is a poet. Besides the Lego work, Ai has created many kinds of art, including working with photos and videos.

Ai has created other paintings out of cool materials. He made one out of iron collected after an earthquake. In another, he used 100 million painted pottery sunflower seeds. He also used 1,000 bicycles to make a sculpture.

The Lego masterpiece covers a whole wall in the Design Museum. It is around 49 feet long.
