Britain’s new guidelines declare that refugees seeking protection would be digitally tracked and subjected to curfews and restrictions. The guideline has caused many debates about civil rights, but Prime Minister Boris Johnson states that the system would make sure that asylum seekers can’t disappear in the country. Many organizations and human rights lawyers say that Britain is treating innocent bystanders as criminals. The chief executive of the Refugee Council Enver Solomon says, “It’s appalling that this government is intent on treating men, women and children who have fled war, bloodshed and persecution as criminals.” The guidelines go on to say that torture victims or those with mental illnesses could be subject to tracking as well.
