The unexpected news of Joe Biden dropping out of the 2024 presidential race on Sunday July 21, 2024 has left Americans conflicted about his actions.
By dropping out of the race, Biden announced Vice President Kamala Harris as the democratic party representative, encouraging his party, the Democrats, to give their full support to her.
With many loud opinions from the older generations on the current predicament of the future leader of America, it leaves some people to wonder; what are the younger citizens of America thinking?
Even before the news of Biden dropping out emerged, at the very start of the presidential debate, many people were making “ship edits” of Joe Biden and Donald Trump. “Ship” refers to the creation of a relationship between two people. They were turning this serious situation into a joke, but for what reason?
In a survey done by CBS News, almost 50% of voters said Biden and Trump don’t understand them, due to the age gap between both candidates and younger generations
This may also stem from the claims that both candidates aren’t good choices for president. Both of them have lied, or at least have been proven wrong on their claims multiple times..
Many young citizens say that they don’t have any hope for the future of America, with multiple commenters on tiktok viewing videos on the topic negatively.
In this video, most comments talked down on both presidents.
Returning to the subject of Biden dropping out of the race, his actions only produced more edits from Gen Z making fun of the situation. Some even compared it to a popular musical, Hamilton. Others are just finding this situation more hopeless as they believe Trump will be elected instead.
Maybe with Harris competing against Trump may give hope for Gen Z.
