Biden Drops Out of Presidential Race

On Sunday, Joe Biden abandoned his campaign for a second term after pressure from Democrats to make Kamala Harris their leader. He also gave support to arris to stop Donald Trump from returning to the White House.

“And while it has been my intention to seek re-election, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.” Biden said.

He wants to offer his full support for Kamala Harris to become the next president.

The president’s decision affected the election and made it unpredictable. Harris has 107 days to win over Democrats, show she is a capable leader, and debate against former president Donald Trump. Polls show that she is doing good and could be ahead of Mr. Trump.

Biden officials said the president started to change his mind about his decision on Saturday while spending time with family and three aides in Rehoboth Beach. That day, he also summoned Mike Donolion, one of his longest serving advisers to also talk to him.

On Sunday, he finalized his decision to drop out after a conversation. He called three people: Harris, Jeffrey D. Zients, the White House chief of staff, and Jennifer O’Malley Dillon, his campaign chair. He told them his decision to drop out.

“It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President,” Mr. Biden said. We will never forget him as our 46th president.
