On Sunday, July 21, while at his vacation home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, President Biden, along with advisor Mike Donilon, announced through social media that he would not be running for reelection.
Following wavering loyalty and mounting pressure from Democrats, Biden ultimately recognized that his campaign was losing support, lowering his chances of success in the election. Still weakened by COVID-19, he contacted his close officials virtually and finalized his decision on the morning of July 21. Biden later stated on X, “…while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and country for me to stand down…”
The Biden Administration started relatively strong, but Biden’s leadership as the 46th President has declined in recent years, which may be attributed to his age and memory.
