Blind Dog is found in Alaska 3 Weeks After Wandering Off

By: Alex Chu

On July 5, 2022, Lulu, a blind elderly golden retriever was found by a construction crew in salmonberry bushes after wandering away from her family in Alaska 3 weeks ago. Lulu’s family is very lucky to have found her because they had already given up search.

Lulu was almost dead, but she survived by getting nursed and she is back with her family. “She means everything,” Owner Ted Kubacki said. He explained the process of finding Lulu to reporters: “I have five daughters, and they’re 4 to 13 years old, so they’ve spent every day of their life with that dog. She’s just so helpless, and you kind of imagined that she can’t get real far because she can’t see. We put the kids to bed and got a text saying, ‘We found your dog,’ or ‘I have your dog,’ and we’re like, ‘Oh my god, this is incredible.’ Then the person texted me, ‘Just kidding.’ This happened, yeah, that was all part of this terrible story.”

After 3 weeks, Kubacki had given up the search, but a couple days later the construction crew found Lulu. At first glance, the dog looked like a bear! Kubacki says the construction crew “got a closer look and they realized that it was a dog, and they got her out of there.” Kubacki and his family were so happy that his tears went away after they got that call.
