Chile vs. USA Rugby Win

By: Nina Huang

Are you a sports fan? Well, if you are, you may have heard of the sport of Rugby before. In the Rugby World Cup, Chile had its first win against the USA. Are you a fan of team USA? No worries, the score was very tight, actually. That game score was 31–29, which was very close. In the end, though, Chile still won.

Rugby?

OK, so I’ll give you a brief explanation of Rugby. This is just for your info, so you’ll know what I’m talking about here. “Rugby is a 15-a-side team sport. The object of the game is to ground the ball behind the opponent’s try line, into what is called the in-goal area. Rugby is played both with the ball in hand and by kicking the ball. However, when the ball is being carried in hand it can only be thrown or handed off backwards,” Britannica.com says.

However, if you are interested in playing Rugby, I’m warning you: It’s one of the most violent sports there is, so if you get injured, DON’T BLAME ME!

How Did Chile Win?

Well, that’s the question, isn’t it? How exactly did Chile beat the powerful U.S. team? “Santiago Videla’s penalty in the 75th minute, which put the South Americans in front for the first time on Saturday, sealed victory. The U.S. had won last week’s first leg 22–21 in Santiago.

Chile will be in Pool D at the 2023 World Cup in France alongside England, Argentina, Japan and Samoa,” BBC News states. “It really means so much … the sacrifices that this team has done. There were times when it seemed like it was uphill,” Chile’s captain Martin Sigren said.

Whether the team you’re rooting for wins or loses, Rugby is an interesting sport to witness.
