Do you know Chris Evans? Evans is an American actor who played Johnny Storm in the superhero movie Fantastic Four, and many other characters in movies! He is getting ready to voice Buzz Lightyear in a new film called Lightyear.
Evans was born in Boston, Massachusetts. His acting career began in fashion: performing in some school productions and community theatres. He played a lot of roles in different movies. The most famous role was known as Captain America in the movie Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The new film is called Lightyear, which is a spinoff from the original Toy Story movie series and follows the story of the astronaut called Buzz Lightyear, which the toy Buzz Lightyear is based on. In the movie’s description, it says: “In 1995, a boy called Andy got a Buzz Lightyear toy for his birthday. It was from his favorite movie. This is that movie.” The film sees Buzz Lightyear, together with a group of space rangers, trying to find a way back home after being stuck on a planet millions of light-years from Earth.
Taika Waititi, one of Evans’s co-stars, and Evans himself were asked if they’d like to go to space in real life. Evans said, “Yeah, sure I’d go to space…” To Taika, it depends. He said, “For me it depends. Who’s operating it, what other thing I can expect on this trip, what’s the food going to be like, if it’s the very first trip, definitely ‘no’…After they’ve been doing it for a couple of years, then it’s a ‘yes’.”
Answering some questions from two Newsround viewers, Hawaa and Leonardo, Evans said playing the role of Buzz Lightyear was “very intimidating, because I’m sure you guys grew up with a very different Buzz Lightyear.”
“Most people have an idea in their head of who that character is, so as exciting as it is to play a role that everyone knows, it was a little nerve-racking to try and find a way that I could make the character my own, while still respecting the character that you guys all know,” said Evans.
Evans was also asked if the voice acting was easier than live-action. “I’m going to say no,” he said. “For me as an actor it’s so easy to play off of the world around me, play off other actors, to play off the environment, to listen and react, but when you’re voice acting, you’re alone in a booth and you’re doing the same line over and over again and you start to get pretty self-conscious.”
