Many predictions have been made about the future of the earth in regards to climate change. These predictions suggest that by the 2040s most of southern England would no longer reach temperatures below zero. By the 2060s, only areas of high ground and regions like northern Scotland are still likely to experience such cold days.
However, if the world reduces emissions significantly, the changes will be less dramatic.
The average coldest day in the UK in the past three decades was -4.3 Celsius. If emissions continue to accelerate, then the average coldest day in the UK could remain above 0 Celsius across most of the country during the winter.
Although there may be some variation to these projections, the overarching picture is warmer, wetter winters and hotter, drier summers. Additionally, there will be more frequent and intense extremes, such as heavier rainfall when it occurs.
