Trump blames others for his miscalculations
What we know right now is that COVID cases are surging, particularly in the states with a hotter climate. Trump has been blaming others for his miscalculations. Even after some of his administration officials showed him a study stating heat could make COVID-19 more dangerous, he stated “everybody” believed the coronavirus would disappear in warm weather but “they” had been wrong. The “they” and “everybody” in this sentence points a finger at the general public while not acknowledging that he himself was incorrect.
Georgia Democrats vote for the successor of representative John Lewis.
On Monday, Democrats in Georgia are poised to pick a replacement for representative John Lewis after he died in his seventeenth year of service. Georgia’s primary elections took place in June, so officials are planning to leave the spot open until a winner emerges in January 2021. Representative John Lewis was a towering figure in the civil rights movement, being the son of sharecroppers who survived a brutal attack by police.
A former reporter running for Congress has plagiarized passages many times.
Ashley Hinson is a republican state representative in Iowa running against Abby Finkenauer and has plagiarized passages more than once. For example, last Wednesday, Ashley Hinson published an essay titled “Creating America’s new normal: China must be held accountable.”, which includes three plagiarized passages from another New York Times article. For example:
The Times wrote: “Chinese pharmaceutical companies have supplied more than 90 percent of U.S. antibiotics, vitamin C, ibuprofen and hydrocortisone, as well as 70 percent of acetaminophen and 40 to 45 percent of heparin in recent years, according to Yanzhong Huang, a senior fellow for global health at the Council on Foreign Relations.”
Ms. Hinson wrote: “Chinese pharmaceutical companies have supplied more than 90 percent of U.S. antibiotics, vitamin C, ibuprofen and hydrocortisone, as well as 70 percent of acetaminophen and 40 to 45 percent of heparin in recent years.”
After a Times reporter informed her about the plagiarized passages, Ashley Hinson wrote, “I was unaware of the plagiarism when I reviewed drafts presented to me by staff, “As a journalist I take this extremely seriously and am deeply sorry for the mistake. The staff responsible will be held accountable.”
