Communication with Animals

By: Adalyn Xiao

If I could choose to be able to talk to animals, there are a few animals I would want to have a conversation with:

  1. Dolphins
Dolphins are extremely smart creatures so they might be fun to talk to. I would ask them, “What’s it like living in the ocean?”
I expect the dolphin will be very playful and interactive. I think its response may be similar to this: “The ocean is vast and full of wonders. Every day, I get to explore beautiful coral reefs, play in the waves, and swim through underwater forests. It never becomes boring! One thing I would want humans to do is stop polluting the ocean. Sometimes my friends get stuck in the plastic that gets tossed into the ocean. Thank you!”
  2. Turtles
Turtles might offer a slower perspective of their life. I might ask what kind of food they enjoy, and what they like to do.
I think the turtle’s response would be, “My diet is mostly leaves, flowers, and grasses. I like to spend my time under the shade of a tree-it’s quite comfortable there. I enjoy my calm life on islands where I’m found, it is quite peaceful.”
  3. Horses
Horses might tell me about their experiences with humans, and I would expect them to be curious and enthusiastic. I would ask them what it is like to live like a horse.
Its response may be, “I get to run around, and enjoy the company of my horse friends. Living like a horse is full of freedom, but sometimes the riders are so harsh on us. Can you tell them that us horses really don’t like it when they whip us? Thanks!”

These are a few of the animals I would like to talk to if I gained the ability to speak to animals. Another advantage is if I could talk to them, I would be a great vet because I could ask the animals where they hurt and know what to do to heal them. These reasons support why I think I would enjoy the power to communicate to animals.
