The reports for the numbers of coronavirus cases in the United States are inaccurate, and this poses a huge problem. More people will get infected because they don’t know the exact truth to the number of cases, and think that everything is fine. This will end up causing more damage in the long run.

According to data released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (C.D.C.) on Tuesday, July 21, the numbers of coronavirus cases are 2 to 13 times higher than the reported rates. This means that people who didn’t have any symptoms or never got medical care will be unintentionally endangering their whole community. New York had a 12-fold difference between actual infection count and the reported rate in early April, and a 10-fold difference in May.

To fix this issue, we must focus on getting more accurate counts of coronavirus cases and prioritize the health of citizens. The United States government should do all it can to support citizens and slow down the spread of the coronavirus. The safety of citizens is the most important task during this pandemic. During these hard times, we can all think about how to help each other as a community, and as a citizen of the United States.
