Dangerous Heat Waves around the world

By: Bella Gao

People across Asia, North America, and Europe are suffering through heat waves of up to 115 degrees Fahrenheit. The heat waves started in the West and Southwest of the United States. Places like Arizona, Colorado, and Nevada were the first to reach these dangerously high temperatures.

The heat wave is now moving towards the Atlantic Ocean and bringing record-breaking heat to states in the central US.

Europe is being affected as well; some European countries suffering through the second heat wave this year. Others are facing a severe lack of rainfall. 97% percent of Portugal is known to be in an extreme drought.

People in India are experiencing the worst heat wave. The temperature is 120 degrees Fahrenheit which is 49 degrees Celsius. New Delhi already experienced 6 heat waves this year. Much of India is now cooling down but places such as Pakistan are still boiling in the hot sun.

Pakistan is also experiencing a fuel shortage from the war between Ukraine and Russia that has created a huge demand for fuel all around the world. Pakistan’s shortage of fuel has led to blackouts for up to 12 hours in places, which means people can’t use air conditioning or fans to keep cool.

Thankfully rain is expected to cool things down. The rain would be good news to the farmers who have been struggling in the drought conditions.
