Imagine you went to a store earlier this week to buy some pink paint. But when you walked in, the whole stock of bright pink from Rosco was gone! Later, when you asked the manager where the bright pink was, he told you he never even received it yet, since it sold out already! According to him, the bright pink was used to construct the setup of the ‘Barbie’ movie directed by Greta Gerwig.

Well, this is actually really happening. Construction of the expansive, rosy-hued Barbie Land at Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden, England had caused an international run on the fluorescent shade of Rosco paint. However, this wasn’t solely the movie’s fault.

Lauren Proud, Rosco’s vice president of global marketing for Rosco, said that “they used as much paint as we had” but that it was in short supply to begin with during the movie’s production in 2022. Rosco was still recovering from Texas’s cold winter of 2021, which damaged millions of gallons of paint, and materials used to fix them.

“I wanted the pinks to be very bright, and everything to be almost too much,” Gerwig said. Viewers will soon be able to see for themselves, when the movie hits theaters on July 21.
