In game 6 of the 2021 – 2022 NBA Championship on Thursday, June 16, the Golden State Warriors finally won after a few underwhelming seasons. Jorden Poole and Curry carried the team, and Stephen Curry finally won his 4th ring. A question then arose from people around the nation, does Curry deserve the praise he gets? I would argue yes. He played his best, was challenged along the way, and continues to exhibit selflessness on and off the court.
According to NBA.com, for the final games, Curry scored 29, 31, 43, 16, and 34 points respectfully in the recent games. Disregarding the 16 he got the day he choked; the scores are better than most players’ lifetime highs.
In addition to his athleticism, he was challenged along the way with obstacles that would make average players give up. He was vertically challenged, being 6’2, making it very hard to do his specialty, shooting. For instance, if Kobe Bryant and Lebron James are both 6-7 or taller, they can get to their spot and quickly shoot over guys. If Curry wants to shoot, he will always have a significant risk of being blocked, but he still manages to shoot better than most.
Last but not least, Curry displays amazing selflessness. “It all starts with Steph,” Draymond Green said at the beginning of the Finals. “When KD was here, our offense still started with Steph, and that’s the way it’s going to be.” Steph has a significant impact on the game, this kind of impact may not be achieved just by one player but multiple by, and Steph has been selfless and not greedy, giving other players chances. You can also see this with his average assists.
In conclusion, Stephen Curry is a great player. I think he deserves the praises he gets because he always played his best, was challenged along the way and continues to exhibit selflessness on and off the court.
