Dream

By: Valentina Cheng

Dream—according to the Oxford Dictionary—a series of thoughts, imaginations, and sensations occurring in a person’s mind during sleep.
A dream.

Another life.

Another meaning.

Down in the depths of my mind, each night configures the feeling of uncertainty.

Remembering the darkness, the cold, the fear. The nightmares lurk, making my sweat icy and fear larger than the sky.

Escaped the sweet, loving fantasy. Seemingly too eternal to forget, yet it slips away when my eyes open and my body grounds to reality.

Anxious for the next mystery. Eyes closed, I pass through a void of confusion. A target I cannot set, a dream beyond my foresight.

Melancholy, magical, memorable. A dream is both the good and the bad. It fuels my love, creativity, imagination but heightens the presence of non-existent creatures lurking in the darkness. It makes me lost in a maze with no end or beginning, both structural and looping. It makes me frustrated with the inability to take control of my own self—my own actions. It angers me with grief and rage to roar louder than the sea.

So, what is a dream?

A dream is EVERYTHING.
