Starmer pledged to give police forces the government’s full support to take action on these far-right groups after the incident happened.
“There is no excuse for violence of An emergency meeting will be held at Downing Street this Monday, because more than 150 people were arrested as some demonstrations across the UK turned violent over the weekend.
The problems occurred when protesting parties bumped into the police. Many places ran into this situation such as Rotherham, Middlesbrough, Bolton, Hull, Liverpool, Bristol, Manchester, Stoke-on-Trent, Blackpool and Belfast.
These demonstrations have been happening for the past days, and were held by far–right groups, who are people that have extreme views usually about immigration, race, and national identity.
At first, there was no violence, but when these protesters ran into police officers, things quickly got violent. People started attacking police officers by throwing things like bottles and damaging shops.
However, some of the protesters were guided by misinformation on the internet. They believed that the incident in Southport was connected to illegal immigration. Anti–racism demonstrators also began to protest because of that.
Therefore, Downing Street has decided to host an emergency response meeting on Monday. Prime Minister Sir Keir any kind and reiterated that the government backs the police to take all necessary action to keep our streets safe,” he said.
Secretary Yvette Cooper, who’s the government minister that’s in charge of the police added, “Criminal violence and disorder has no place on Britain’s streets.”
