Some England fan’s reactions to the team’s work so far at Euro 2024 has been creating a tense and negative environment for the England players.
Manager Gareth Southgate’s side finished top of Group C after draws with both Denmark and Slovenia. Though the results were looking up for England, fans in the crowd were loudly and visibly jeering at their own supporting team.
They had a goalless draw with Slovenia, along with a 1-1 tie with Denmark earlier, and they were doing well and had finished at the top of their group so far. However, manager Gareth Southgate says that he understands why the fans are disappointed and frustrated with the England players, as the fans were hoping for better results and England has not exactly been at its best in these first rounds.
He also says he is proud of his players for managing to operate within the negative environment and deal with the booing and jeering within their own fans. Gareth Southgate was met with another negative response when he went to talk to supporters and had many small plastic cups thrown at him.
The England fans are frustrated at the progress England has made so far, including only a win of 1-0 over Serbia, which was ranked 32nd in European soccer, while England was ranked 5th. The disappointing and boring results have understandingly angered and frustrated English fans who were hoping for larger victories against other countries.
Though England has had wins and draws alike, England fans are extremely disappointed, angry, and frustrated with the results of their country so far. They are so dissatisfied that they have been turning against their own team, and meanwhile creating an unwelcome negativity among the players and fans.
England is hoping for better results and kinder comments from England’s fans in the next couple of rounds, and though they have been under criticism, they hope to earn their honor back and regain the support of their supporters.
