Ex-President Trump in Court for Classified Files

By: Allen Huang

Ex-president Donald Trump was in Miami, Florida on June 13 while pleading not guilty to having hundreds of classified government files in his home. After denying his guilt on 37 charges, Trump is free until his next court meeting. If he were to be found guilty, he would be spending 20 years in prison.

Experts say that there is a chance Trump could still be elected as president in the 2024 election, even if he is convicted.

“There is nothing in the constitution that prevents someone convicted with these charges from becoming president,” said Darren Mulloy, a professor at Wilfrid Laurier University.

If the documents were to be revealed to the public, US soldiers and spies may have been put at risk. Trump allegedly suggested that his lawyer destroy the classified files.

However, even if Trump is found innocent, there will still be many other political issues he will have to face, including a Georgia investigation into his alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 elections.

Trump has stated that he will run in the 2024 election, even if he may be thrown in jail.
