FIFA Announces the 11 American Cities Chosen As Hosts For the Next World Cup

By: Ken Niu

For all you soccer fans out there, the next FIFA World Cup is coming to America! For the first time in over two decades, the US will host the World Cup.

The next World Cup will take place in North America in 2026. FIFA has chosen 11 venues in America, 3 in Mexico, and 2 in Canada. The following cities will be hosts: New York/New Jersey, Miami, Philadelphia, Boston, Houston, Seattle, San Francisco, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Dallas, Mexico City (Mexico), Guadalajara (Mexico), Monterrey (Mexico), Toronto (Canada), and Vancouver (Canada).

The US, Mexico, and Canada came together to make this event possible. They created an alliance called the “United Bid.” Their motto is “Unity. Certainty. Opportunity.”

There are both positive and negative effects on this location. The upside of this is that people in North America will have an easier time going to in-person games. Hotels, restaurants, airlines, and other tourist attractions in the host cities will financially flourish.

The downside of this location is that the games are more widespread, and people will have to take planes to go to multiple games, compared to having a quick railroad system connecting to each city.

The locations for specific fixtures, including the opening and final matches will be released later. Los Angeles or Mexico City will most likely host the opening game – both cities that have previously hosted World Cup finals.

So if you’re a soccer fan who lives in America, the World Cup is headed straight for you!
