Star football player Cristiano Ronaldo played his 200th game for Portugal this week. Not only is he the first male footballer who has played in 200 internationals, no other male player has played more games for his country.
After the game, Ronaldo told UEFA.tv, “It’s the kind of moment you never expect, to reach 200 caps. For me, it’s an unbelievable achievement.” He added, “to be in the Guinness World Records is amazing and to score the winning goal is even more special.”Ronaldo was given a Guinness World Records certificate to mark his achievement before the game started. During the game, he scored the only goal in the game and Portugal beat Iceland 1-0.
Since 2003, Ronaldo has played for Portugal. The following year he scored his first goal for his country in the Euro 2004 competition. Now, Ronaldo is scoring goals, winning for his country, and playing for some of Europe’s best football clubs, such as Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus.
Some of his achievements include winning the Champions League five times, the first player to do so, and being the only player to score more than ten goals in a competition with three different teams. As a matter of fact, he is the competition’s top goalscorer.
Ronaldo set the record for most goals in a single season with 31 goals while playing for Manchester United and made 37 goals in one season when he played for Juventus. He’s also the top scorer for Real Madrid with 450 goals.
His international career is also record-breaking. He’s now scored 123 times for Portugal which is another men’s world record. Ronaldo is the only player to score a goal in five different World Cups and is the only player to have played in five Euro tournaments
Currently, Ronaldo plays for Al-Nassr which is a team in Saudi Arabia. He has made many achievements in his career and will continue to set new records.
