Fans all over the world enjoy watching a good game of football, whether it’s just a small school competition or a big game in the NFL. Even though it may be entertaining, things can go very wrong at times: for example, players could receive a concussion or tear an ACL etc. Players know this and still they continue to play because of their undying dedication to the sport they love.
Players such as Luke Kuelchy, a 21 year old who retired from football recently, have received numerous concussions, yet they continue to play and get injured all over again. Luke thinks that safety resources on the field are good enough so that even if he gets hurt, he will be able to get immediate medical attention.
“There’s independent spotters at every game, at every stadium, and there’s multiple ones that their sole job is to watch the game to see if anybody gets hit or acts abnormal. So the N.F.L., I think, has done a really good job of trying to keep the players safe on the field and give them the opportunity to be safe in their return to play as well,” Kuelchy says. Despite this confidence that Kuelchy and others share, many legends of football have died due to concussions while playing the sport, such as Andre Waters.
Ultimately, football players do retire due to concussions while playing the sport, but many think that it is worth it if they get to play and shine in the sport of football.
