Germany Defeats Scotland in the Opening Game of EURO 2024

Last Friday, June 14th, during the opening game of the Euro 2024, Germany defeated Scotland 5-1, the biggest victory Germany has had in the Euros. The Euro Championship is a European football tournament, similar to the World Cup, where European countries are split into teams. This year, Germany is hosting the Euro 2024.

The matchup was in the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany. Thousands of supporters of Scotland and Germany were there to cheer on their country. Within 10 minutes, Florian Wirtz socred the first goal for Germany. Just less than 10 minutes later, Jamal Musiala from Germany scored another, making the score 2-0. With the first half (45 minutes) over, Germany was leading 3-0. The third goal came from a penalty kick made by the 25-year-old Kai Havertz.

In the second half, after an hour and seven minutes, Germany scored another goal by Niclas Fullkrug, a powerful striker, from around 2 yards outside of the penalty box. Finally, after 20 minutes, Scotland was able to get a goal from a free kick by Scott McKenna, Scotland’s defender. At the very end of the game, Germany was able to get one last goal. The final score was 5-1.

Scottish fans were disappointed with their team’s performance. On June 19th, Scotland will play Switzerland, while Germany will face Hungary on the same day! Will Germany continue its reign as the favored host? We’ll see!
