The opening match of the Euro 2024 was in Munich, Germany, on June 14, and the match was Scotland against Germany. Scotland fans were excited for the inaugural match, but they had no idea what was in store for them. The Scotland team wasn’t expected to win against Germany, but even then, the point difference was surprising. The German team was expected to win, but not by a lot. Instead, they won with a score of 5 to 1.
From the start of the game, Germany was in the lead. An attacking midfielder, Florian Wirtz, scored in the first ten minutes of the game. The Scotland fans started to worry, but there was the rest of the game to make a comeback, so they weren’t panicking yet. However, ten minutes later, they were. Jamal Musiala scored a goal, so in just 20 minutes, Germany was up 2 to 0. Seventy minutes into the the match, things were looking bleak for Scotland.
The game was in a stopped position for a while, and Scotland fans and the team were clinging to a thread of hope. Can the Scotland team miraculously make a comeback? One member of the team, Kai Havertz, was a little too eager and accidentally made a foul. Oops! A rash decision only widened the lead of Germany to 3-0! The Scotland supporters started biting their nails. In the 67th minute, Niclas Fullkrug, a German player, made a powerful kick, making it 4-0. The Scotland fans lost all hope for their team.
At the 87th minute, a miracle happened. Scotland player Scott McKenna’s free kick bounced off the head of the German defender and into the net! The fans felt their hopes rise again. However, their rekindled hopes were demolished five minutes later when the German player Emre Can scored a goal. When the game ended, the score was 5 to 1. Hopefully, the Scotland team will have better luck in their next match against Switzerland on June 19. Good luck!
