At the Euro 2024 Games, after two hours of endless back and forth, England and Slovenia both reach a stalemate. Dissatisfied fans, at the end of their patience began booing and throwing cups at the England team.
Gareth Southgate, England’s Team’s manager, had the worst of it. Dealing with the negative talk and getting hit by empty cups thrown by fans.
During the match, the England men’s team—The Three Lions—got into the knockout stage, an extra amount of time added on to the traditional 90 minutes if the score was tied. Once a team makes a goal, they win. If no one scores a goal in 15 minutes, they move onto penalty shootouts for another 15 minutes.
Unfortunately, no side scored a goal during the entire game including the knockout stage ending the game at just 0-0. This result was not appreciated by English fans very well, which escalated to booing and throwing cups.
Gareth Southgate didn’t let the draw and disapproval of the fans lower team morale. He reminded them that at least on the bright side, England’s defense had done well during the match, making sure nothing would get past them. English players also asserted dominance with their ball control on the field.
England’s next opponent for the quarter-finals is Switzerland. The arena will be in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, on July 6th. The winner will move onto the semi-finals, while the loser will go back home.
