Goose Goose Noose

By: Evan Hong

In a land of marshy muck and mire, Lived a creature we all admire, A goose, so grand, with honk so spry, Let me tell you how it came to die!

From a spotted egg, so round and bright, A gosling hatches, pure snow white, With fluffy feathers, soft as a pillow, It waddles and giggles, to and fro!

Mama Goose, with love so true, Keeps her goslings safe and new, She teaches them to swim and quack, Through ponds and reeds, no looking back!

As days turn to weeks, oh my, Those downy feathers wave goodbye, Tiny wings start to stretch and grow, The goslings are ready, don’t you know?

They practice flapping, up and down, In the water and on the ground, With each day passing, they start reacting, to being caught while eating lots.

One day, they gather, in a line so neat, With courage rising in tiny heartbeats, They run, they waddle, they flap and try, Oh, what a moment, when they touch the sky!

With a great gust of wind, they’re off, they’re away, Young geese take flight, in the light of day, Over fields and rivers, they soar so high, In the great blue sky, they truly shine!

And so, my friend, that’s the story of a goose, From egg to sky, no need to deduce, A tale of growth, of freedom’s call, In the world of geese, they conquer all!

But what happens next, you’ll never see, as the flock decides to travel east! One of them gets eaten whole, while a hawk was waiting by a pole, but this wasn’t the end of it, oh no it’s the start, for another one that was flying suddenly got dropped, as a hunter walked over to pick up his prize, he realized the magnitude of this goose’s size. Now realizing his grave mistake, he shed enough tears to fill up a lake. The man vowed to help nurture the goose, so that one day he could be let loose.
