Great Athletes From Team USA

By: Shirley Huang

There are a lot of great U.S. athletes, like Simone Biles, Noah Lyles, and Armand Duplantis. I will tell you all about them.

First of all is Simone Biles, who competes in gymnastics for Team USA. She is often described as one of the greatest athletes of all time, having a whopping four gold, one silver and two bronze. For example, at the 2016, she got her four gold medals from floor exercise, vault, all-around and team segments. But even she has difficulties at times, such as …. at the 2020 Tokyo Games, she withdrew from most of her competitions after experiencing ‘twisties’, which is a mental block where a gymnast can lose their sense of space in the air.

Next on the list is Noah Lyles, who runs for Team USA. He is described as the fastest man in the world. He will be competing to pick up gold in the 100m sprint. Surprisingly, even if Noah is the fastest runner in the world, he isn’t the fastest person to complete the 100m sprint! The fastest is Jamaica’s Usain Bolt, who ran it in a whopping 9.58 seconds in Copenhagen in 2009. You can catch him in the 2024 Paris Olympics competing in the men’s 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relays.

The last athlete on the list is Armand Duplantis, who competes in pole vaulting. You play this sport by holding a pole in your hand and using the pole to jump over another horizontal pole. He is also known as Mondo, which means world, and he has broken his own record 8 times. I wish I could just jump that high! He may be a pole vault star, but he is also a fan of baseball! That’s so cool! He is also a reigning Olympic champion after landing gold in Tokyo in 2021. Cool! All eyes will be on him again this year to see if he is able to pick up another gold and break his own record again which now stands at a whopping 6.24 m!
I am also going to talk about Team USA’s men’s basketball team. This cool team has some of the greatest athletes in the NBA, including LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Steph Curry. Together, they have won a whopping four gold medals in this sport! According to Sporting News, it is also the oldest USA Olympic men’s basketball roster in history. The average age of this team is 30.1 years! The next thing I will say will be hard to believe, and it is that they will have tough competitions against Serbia and Canada!
No matter what, these athletes or teams are all great! I hope we become even more better. Go, Team USA!
