By: JJ G

On September 4, 2022, Magnus Carlsen has accused Hans Niemann of cheating at the Sinquefield Cup, an online chess tournament. After all that, following the Sinquefield, they had a rematch. Once Niemann moved his white piece, Carlsen responded by moving one black piece and then quit. The Julius Baer Generation Cup was on Sunday. Carlsen made his statement the next day that Niemann cheated. Carlsen’s decision to quit during the match makes everyone confused.

Hans Niemann has admitted that he cheated at the age of 12 and 16 but denied cheating now. However, Niemann was banned from Chess.com. Chess.com has evidence about Niemann “that contradicts his statements regarding the amount and seriousness of his cheating on Chess.com.”

Carlsen, who has dominated chess for years said Niemann’s global ranking (he is currently at No. 49) has seen “unusual” gains. When they played in person on Sept. 4, both players were subjected to a security check using handheld metal detector wands, as video from the event shows.

In the end, Chess.com figured out that Niemann has cheated. They have detailed evidence.” Chess.com said, it has sent “detailed evidence” to Niemann “that contradicts his statements regarding the amount and seriousness of his cheating on Chess.com.”
