Whenever the head of a company resigns, this action can pose a serious threat to the community around him or her. In the article Head of Documenta Resigns Amid Antisemitism Scandal by Alex Marshall, the director general of the renowned contemporary art exhibition Documenta, Sabine Schormann, resigned from her occupation 28 days into the exhibition’s 100-day duration. After reading through this article, I would rate it a four out of five for the article’s detail regarding Documenta, the Art World, and its displays, yet it has flaws in its drifting of topics.
First, the author has included great specific details regarding Documenta and its exhibitions. Since this article orbits around this event, it is essential to include an abundant amount of information regarding this. The author, Marshall, has done a great job doing so. These details, such as the inclusion of the art pieces that have been displayed, like the “People’s Justice,” enhance the reader’s understanding of the entire community and the project.
The author also includes plenty of information about the Art World. These sentences allow the reader to get a bigger picture of the content in the article. Since Documenta is part of the Art world, it’s reasonable for him to include more information about this exhibition’s role in the larger system.
I was dissatisfied with the author’s decision to jump between various topics. This fluctuation can potentially harm readers who have difficulties reading complex passages. If Marshall aspires to create a better article to attract a larger audience, then he should consistently focus on the resignation of Sabine Schormann and exclude other unnecessary pieces of information that might appear in the article.
In conclusion, these are the three reasons behind my rating of four out of five. Marshall has included vast details about Documenta, the Art World, and more. However, what would come as a threat to his creation is his constant switching of topics. After reading this article, I have gained a better understanding about the art world and Documenta. Reading Marshall’s writing was a mainly enjoyable experience between it is always fun learning about something new.
