Historic Win in Gymnastics for USA in Paris 2024 Olympics

By: Theodore Tong

The Paris 2024 Olympics will be remembered for the outstanding performances of the American gymnastics teams, which collectively won 10 medals. The USA men’s team ended a 16-year medal drought by winning bronze in the team all-around on July 29, 2024. Their success was remarkable considering their disappointing performance in the qualifying rounds and team captain Brody Malone’s recent recovery from a serious knee injury.

Malone led the team with flawless routines on the still rings and high bar, while teammates Paul Juda, Asher Hong, and Frederick Richard also delivered strong performances. Stephen Nedoroscik’s perfect routine on the pommel horse secured the team’s bronze medal. Nedoroscik also won another bronze in the individual pommel horse competition on August 3, 2024.

The US women’s gymnastics team, led by Simone Biles, reclaimed gold in the team event. Biles, along with Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey, and Sunisa Lee, performed impeccably on the beam, uneven bars, and vault, finishing six points ahead of silver-medalist Italy.

In the individual events, Biles won gold in the all-around competition on August 2, 2024, while Lee took bronze. Lee continued her impressive performance with another bronze in the uneven bars on August 4, 2024, despite battling kidney disease over the past year.

Jordan Chiles added to the medal count with a bronze in the individual floor exercise on August 5, 2024, while Biles won silver in the same event. With 11 Olympic medals (7 gold, 2 silver, 2 bronze), Biles is now the most decorated US Olympic gymnast in history.
