HOMEWARD BOUND

By: Victoria You

There is an old movie called Homeward Bound, which is a touching story about three lost pets on a tough journey home.

The movie starts with three pets named Chance, Shadow, and Sassy in a small household of five humans, with a mom, dad, and three kids named Peter, Hope, and Jamie. Each kid has a pet: Hope has a cat named Sassy, Peter has Shadow, the dog, and Jamie has Chance, who is also a dog. One day, the family decided to go on a road trip without the pets, so they dropped off their pets at a farm in the country, and off they went.

At this point, you would have noticed that the animals can talk, which I personally really like because it shows the possibilities of what we don’t know in the animal kingdom, and it conveys the animals’ perspective, which I think is cool.

Sassy and Shadow are bothered about being away from their owners, while Chance is not as loyal and says there’s more to do there on the farm than at home. Under Chance’s urging, Sassy and Shadow decide to wait a little longer for their family to return. After a few days, Shadow decides to leave the farm to go home and jumps over the fence. Sassy and Chance follow.

On the way home, they have to cross a river, which Shadow and Chance do very easily, but Sassy does not take water very pleasantly and tries to find a more comfortable way. Doing so, she finds a path of rocks and logs to cross, and she makes it past all the rocks but falls on the last log! She struggles to keep her head above the flowing water, as she shouts for Shadow. Shadow jumps in to save her but she disappeared down the waterfall!

Since I don’t want to spoil the movie for you, to find out more, you have to watch the movie on Disney Plus!
