In October, something shocking happened: Rishi Sunak became the new prime minister of United Kingdom. Who is Rishi Sunak? He’s the youngest prime minister in over 200 years and the first Indian prime minister of UK. What does this mean? Rishi Sunak will be the first person of color to lead the UK. In a sense, his appointment shows UK’s social progress. This amazing development is a result of both the background of Sunak and his wife’s family and also the problems that UK faces now.
First, I would like to introduce Rishi himself to you. Sunak grew up in a middle-class family of new immigrants. His parents played important roles in Sunak’s education. He studied in Winchester Public School and Oxford University successively. The good growth environment and learning atmosphere laid the foundation for his future. While studying in Stanford, Sunak met his future wife Akshara Multi. Her father is the founder of India’s second largest IT company. With the help of his father-in-law, Sunak has risen rapidly in the financial field.
After that, he used his talent and intelligence to convince everyone on politics. He became chancellor of the exchequer through Johnson’s trust. After 5 months, Sunak quit his job from the government because he lost confidence in the leadership of Prime Minister Johnson at that time. Soon, Rishi was turned into the new Prime Minister with help of over 100 members of parliament. In this way, a global leader with different religions and backgrounds is not a bad choice for a country which faces many problems right now.
“Britain is a great country, but it is facing a profound economic crisis, this is why I want to be the leader of the Conservative Party and your next Prime Minister,” said Rishi in his deep confident. Facing the pressure from social media and serious financial problems, he already had to make many decisions, some of which have been greeted favorably, others not so much. As a prime minister, he still needs to learn a lot.
