Animals have been living with humans for thousands of years. They provide us food, milk and help us grow crops. Despite the benefits animals give us, people seem to treat them more cruelly than ever. Chickens are shut in tiny cages they could barely move. Cattles are separated from their mothers when they are little.
Good thing is that more and more people are standing up for the poor animals. In Germany, there’s a farm for rescued animals. They are treated and respected like people. Uninvited visitors are forbidden to enter and pat them like pets. “You don’t show up at a nursing home to pet the grandmas, why would it be any different here?” That’s the owner’s idea. In the farm, no more animals need to provide human needs, their purpose is to just live peacefully and enjoy themselves. Frederick, the pig who they rescued was now free, living happily while sharing a muddy pond with three other swans and the geese. They are treated as a life should be.
Imagine yourself being shut in a dungeon, you can barely move an inch and you won’t be free for the rest of your life. That’s what the animals have felt. People sometimes forget that animals are lives, too, they can feel pain. Of course there is still a long way to go before people give up on eating meat. However, in my view, people should at least consider the animals’ feelings. We should try to provide a comfortable place for them and be sure that they feel as little pain as possible.
Animals are lives, too.
