Iconic Up House Transformed into an Airbnb Rental

By: Claire Ouyang

An Airbnb listing offers a short stay experience in a precise replica of the famous Up house from the 2009 Pixar film, along with other famous homes from movies and TV shows.

The iconic flying cottage from the popular animation “Up” has been recreated as an Airbnb stay, offering fans a chance to experience a piece of movie magic in real life. The replica cottage is designed to resemble the charming house lifted by balloons in the movie, complete with intricate details that match the adventurous mood of the film.

Guests who secure a stay at the Airbnb will have an unparalleled experience. The house is set by props like the old TV and the charming crockery adorning the walls. These carefully selected items not only make the house seem realistic but also serve as subtle nods to the film like gems waiting to be discovered in a treasure hunt. Fans of the movie will undoubtedly appreciate the detail evident in every corner of the house.

In light of the success of previous themed properties, such as the Barbie Malibu DreamHouse, the short-stay lodging platform is launching a new section named “Icons.” This category will showcase collaborations with renowned brands and celebrities, giving guests an unforgettable experience.

Perched above New Mexico’s desert with the assistance of a massive crane, this enchanting residence offers a one-of-a-kind experience for visitors. According to The Post, the scene is breathtaking, offering remarkable views of the surrounding desert terrain.

Despite the delightful scenery, curiosity has naturally arisen regarding the practical aspects of such an unconventional accommodation.

Airbnb reassured doubters that the house is “fully functional,” when asked about plumbing and electricity. The house is connected to generators and utilities that will be managed before and after its “flight.”

Other Airbnb listings feature a two-dimensional replica of the mansion from the X-Men ‘97 cartoon and stay at the Minneapolis house made famous by the late pop icon Prince in his classic 1984 film Purple Rain.

In contrast to previous rare listings, Airbnb now targets a wider audience with its Icons listings, anticipating around 4000 bookings for these unique accommodations in 2024. These listings are all priced at less than $100 per guest and will be allocated through a lottery system. This shift in approach reflects Airbnb’s aim to broaden its appeal and cater to a larger demographic of travelers seeking distinctive and affordable lodging options.

“Icons take you inside worlds that only existed in your imagination — until now,” Airbnb chief executive officer (CEO) Brian Chesky says. “As life becomes increasingly digital, we’re focused on bringing more magic into the real world … we’ve created the most extraordinary experiences on Earth. “Most people only ever open our app once or twice a year, and we’ve got to battle to make sure they think of us every single year. So this keeps us top of mind and culturally relevant,” Mr Chesky said in an interview with New York Times.
