Inside Out 2 Wows Critics and Audiences

By: Daniel Deng

The highly anticipated sequel to Pixar’s beloved Inside Out has finally arrived, and it’s receiving widespread acclaim from both critics and moviegoers. Inside Out 2 delves deeper into the inner world of Riley as she navigates the challenges of adolescence, bringing the same blend of humor, heart, and stunning animation that made the original a classic.

Reviewers are praising the film’s thoughtful portrayal of the turbulent emotions of puberty. As The New York Times notes, the movie is “a mesmerizing, rightly unsettling graphic expression of intense emotional turmoil.” The addition of new emotions, such as Anxiety voiced by Maya Hawke, adds depth and relatability to Riley’s inner struggles by looking into more advanced parts of mental growth. The film’s visuals are being hailed as some of Pixar’s best work yet. The imaginative world inside Riley’s mind is brought to vivid life, with intricate details that make the characters feel (almost) too real. From the dreamy landscapes of Imagination Land to the bustling offices of Riley’s subconscious, every frame is a feast for the eyes.

But what truly sets Inside Out 2 apart is its heartfelt storytelling. The movie tackles complex themes of anxiety, self-doubt, and the pains of growing up and does so with a sensitivity and sincerity that resonates with audiences of all ages. Inside Out 2 does a great job at zooming into this years-long journey of self-discovery into just one difficult weekend. The voice cast shines, bringing Riley’s emotions to life with nuance and humor. The chemistry between Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and the newcomer Anxiety is undeniable, making their interactions a joy to watch. And Lewis Black steals scenes as the voice of Anger, delivering a memorable speech inspired by the classic film “Network”, which is about a fictional television network that struggles with poor ratings and internal company turmoil.

Inside Out 2 is a triumphant sequel that builds upon the foundation of the original while exploring fresh themes and ideas. It’s a must-see for fans of Pixar and anyone who’s ever navigated the ups and downs of growing up.
